SMWC Athletics Unveils Class of 2019 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees

SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. -  Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Department of Athletics has unveiled its 2019 Athletic Hall of Fame class which features three honorees that will get inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Feb. 2nd, 2019.

Inductees in the Class of 2019 include Ginger Griffin '00 (Women's Basketball), Sara Goelz '12 (Softball), and Stephanie Runyon '13 (Women's Cross Country).

Athletic Director and 2017 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, Deanna Bradley said, "We are very excited about this years' HOF inductees. We have incredible student-athletes contribute to the success of our athletic programs, and it is an honor to recognize Ginger, Sarah, and Stephanie for their outstanding accomplishments at SMWC".


Ginger Griffin '00 | Women's Basketball

One of the top all-time best scorers in SMWC women's basketball history, Ginger Griffin competed for the Pomeroys four seasons where she amassed 1,266 points. Griffin was the first ever student-athlete to enter the 1,000 Point Club at SMWC. In the 1998-99 season, Griffin hauled in 243 total rebounds which marked her fifth all-time in a single-season. While competing on the hardwood for the Pomeroys, Griffin grabbed 753 career total rebounds which is the most in SMWC history while she shot a .429 career field goal percentage which still holds as fifth in the record books.


Sara Goelz '12 | Softball

Possibly the most decorated softball player in SMWC history, Sara Goelz was a four-year contributor to the Pomeroys program. A four-time USCAA First Team All-American and three-time USCAA National All-Academic honoree. On the diamond, her single-season records include: tied for second in saves with two (2), tied for third in home runs with nine (9), tied for third in pitching wins with 18, fourth in completed games with 19, fourth in innings pitched with 163, and fifth in games appeared 27. In her impressive campaign, Goelz career records include: first in innings pitched 531.1, tied for first in career saves three (3), second in completed games 47, second in total wins 50, second in total appearances 87, third in career strikeouts 299, fourth in RBI's 113, fifth in ERA .370, fifth in total hits 177, fifth in at-bats 478.


Stephanie Runyon '13 | Women's Cross Country

Member of the 2009 and 2010 USCAA Women's Cross Country National Championship teams, Stephanie Runyon served as the teams top-runner all four seasons. A four-time USCAA All-American and three-time USCAA National All-Academic honoree. Stephanie was a back-to-back USCAA Individual National Champion Runner-Up in 2009 and 2010. She owns the fastest 5K time in school history 19:07.65, along with the third, fourth, and seventh fastest 5K times ever ran 19:17.20, 19:21.80, and 19:26.0. She sits with the second-best time in program history with a 6K time of 23:42.90 and the sixth best with 24:11.61.


A Look At The Special Day...

The HOF festivities will begin at halftime of the women's basketball contest (vs. Wilberforce University) which tips off at 2:00 p.m ET. The inductee's incredible careers will get celebrated with family, friends, and the Pomeroy crowd. Later in the evening, at the historic Le Fer Ballroom found on-campus. A cocktail hour will start at 5:00 p.m. ET and the celebratory service will begin at 6:00 p.m. ET.
