SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team battled Robert Morris University-Springfield today in a classic doubleheader match-up. The Pomeroys defeated the Eagles in game one and fell short in game two.
GAME ONE | VS. RMU-SPRINGFIELD | WON 9-1
SMWC took down RMU-Springfield 9-1 in game one of the doubleheader. The Pomeroys put up three runs in the sixth inning which gave them a run-rule victory. Taylor Andrew earned the victory in the circle. She gave up zero runs, two hits, and struck out three batters. Kelsey Young threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Holly Jones took the loss for the Eagles. Overall, SMWC racked up 11 hits. Mariah Stout and Young each had three hits to lead the team.
GAME TWO | VS. RMU-SPRINGFIELD | LOST 5-4
SMWC fell to RMU-Springfield 5-4 in game two of the doubleheader. The Pomeroys led 4-3 as they entered the bottom of the seventh inning. The Ealges' Savannah Anzaldua doubled to score two runs which served as the walk-off hit. The Woods lost despite out-hitting Robert Morris-Springfield 12 to nine. Taylor Andrew took the loss on the mound. She gave up five runs and struck out three batters. SMWC collected 12 hits. Kindra Gingerich, Paige McClain, Hollie Jones, and Kerri Schrock each tallied multiple hits for the team. Kindra Gingerich led all hitters with three hits in four at bats.
SMWC softball will be back on the diamond on Saturday, April 14th for Senior Day at 1:00 p.m.
