SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind.– The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team played at home today after a three-week wait due to inclement weather. The Pomeroys' battled Brescia University and finished the day with losses in close games.
GAME ONE | VS. BRESCIA UNIVERSITY | LOST 1-0
SMWC and the Bearcats were in a dogfight up until the seventh inning when BU took a 1-0 lead. The Pomeroys were unable to rally and found themselves on the losing end of game one. Taylor Andrew took the loss on the mound. She finished the contest with five strikeouts. Kelsey Young, Hollie Jones, and Kelly Combs each collected one hit which led the team. Young tallied 14 put-outs.
GAME TWO | VS. BRESCIA UNIVERSITY | LOST 11-9
SMWC lost a tough one 11-9 after they gave up the lead in the top of the seventh inning. The Pomeroys jumped out to an early lead when Baylee Waters laid down a sacrifice bunt which scored one run. Despite tallying 11 hits, the team could not string together enough runs to rally in the bottom of the seventh. Hollie Jones went 4-for-5 at the plate which led the team. Christian Chambers suffered the loss on the mound. She struck out two batters.
The Woods softball will compete in the Cleary University Invitational this weekend. SMWC will play four games in a two-day stretch beginning with Kent State-Tuscarawas on Saturday, April 21st at 2:00 p.m.
