GAME ONE | VS. MIDWAY UNIVERSITY | WON 4-3
Despite seeing its four-run lead whittled down by the end, the Pomeroys held off Midway University for a 4-3 victory on Sunday. Midway University scored three runs in the failed comeback on a single by Marissa Walker and a single by Kelsey Gravens. SMWC earned the victory despite allowing Midway University to score three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Walker and Gravens each drove in runs in the frame. In the first inning, the WOods got their offense started when Kerri Schrock singled on a 1-1 count to score one run. Taylor Andrew was the winning pitcher for Pomeroys. She lasted seven innings, allowed six hits while striking out four. Overall, SMWC scattered eight hits in the game. Hollie Jones and senior Paige McClain all had multiple hits.
GAME TWO | VS. MIDWAY UNIVERSITY | LOST 3-2
SMWC lost the lead late in a 3-2 defeat to Midway University on Sunday. Midway University trailed 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning when Lynsie Clark homered on the first pitch of the at-bat which scored two runs. The pitching was strong on both sides. Midway University pitchers struck out six, while the Pomeroys sat down three. Midway University fired up the offense in the first inning when Kelsey Gravens grounded out to score one run. Hannah Poytner earned the win for Midway University while Christian Chambers took the loss for the Woods. She allowed eight hits and three runs over seven innings and struck out three batters. Kerri Schrock went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the team.
The Pomeroys next contest is TBA as bids to the USCAA Small College Worlds Series will be announced on Monday, May 7th.
