NORFOLK, Va. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team earned a No. 2 seed bid into the 2018 USCAA Small College World Series hosted by the city of Dubois, Pennsylvania. The Pomeroys will strive to win their fourth straight USCAA National Championship in-a-row (2013-14, 2014-15, 2016-17). SMWC will play the winner of #7 seed Mississippi University for Women or #10 Penn State-Beaver/Fayette/Judson.
Head coach Mark Feller said, "It is always an honor to be recognized as one of the top teams in the USCAA. I have been blessed with so many great student-athletes during my tenure here at the Woods. I am very excited for my players to get the opportunity to step out in the field again this year to compete for a National Title. We never take these opportunities for granted and we are most thankful to Saint Mary of the Woods College for their support."
The Pomeroys opponent on Monday, May 14th at 6:00 p.m. is unknown at this time. SMWC will battle the winner of #7 Mississippi University for Women and the #10 seed which will be a Penn State team from the PSUAC conference (Penn State-Beaver/Fayette/Judson?).
The Pomeroys recently finished with a 20-15 (.571) regular season record, including winning five of its final eight contests. The team's most impressive victories of the year came against the top-ranked USCAA teams.

The teams 20 regular-season wins marks the fifth time under Head Coach Mark Feller's direction that the team has finished the year with 20+ victories.
AT THE PLATE
Offensively, the SMWC softball team holds a team batting average of .288 while they have scored 212 total runs and out-hit their opponents 278-to-227. At the plate, they are led by juniors Hollie Jones, Baylee Waters, and senior Kerri Schrock.

Taylor Andrew is the heart of the Pomeroys pitching staff as she leads the team in four statistical categories (wins, strikeouts, ERA, and innings pitched).

Taylor Andrew stated, "To be going to Nationals again is an awesome feeling. We have had our ups and downs this season but we are ready to come and take a fourth National Title. ". She added, "I am looking forward to taking the field for the final time with our seniors. I would love to be able to win and give the seniors 4 national titles."
