Pomeroys Fall 2-0 in Final Game of the Season; Corre Matherly Breaks Single-Season Record for Most Saves

WYOMING, Michigan - The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's soccer team traveled to Wyoming, Michigan to play Grace Christian University in its final game of the season yesterday. The Pomeroys entered the halftime break trailing 1-0. In the second half, SMWC pushed the tempo but could not score a goal on the tough Tigers defense. GCU added one more goal to seal their victory of the Pomeroys 2-0. SMWC finished its season with a record of 1-12-1 and will lose three very special seniors: Jasmine Peoples, Haley Shuler, and Ashleigh Pflum.


Record Breaker feat: Corre Matherly

Corre Matherly, the SMWC goalie broke the single-season record for most saves with 135 yesterday. The previous record was held by Frieda Crispin who notched 124 saves. Matherly's name will go down in history as one of the top-goalies to ever wear the Pomeroy uniform. Congratulations, Corre!!


How It Happened:

  • Corre Matherly finished the contest with five saves; she broke the school record for most saves in a single-season
  • SMWC allowed seven shots on goal in the match; the offense took six shots on the Grace College
