SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. - The Woods women's volleyball team took down NCAA Division II Oakland City University tonight. With the Pomeroys opening up the 2018 SMWC Volleyball Classic with a victory, they will control their own destiny entering tomorrow's doubleheader against Midway University and West Virginia Institute of Technology. The first serve will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Hamilton Arena.

SMWC swept the Oaks in three sets (25-12, 26-24, 25-20)
Freshman Riley Kinney finished the night with a .500 hitting % and seven kills
Senior Gabriella Slagle led the team with 11 kills, a .455 hitting %, and 13.0 points
As a team, the Pomeroys hit .348 % and tallied 59.0 points
Mary Alvanos earned a season-high leading both teams with 36 assists
Coach Beeler stated, "We controlled most of the points from to start and finish. I feel our team was very focused on playing consistent aggressive volleyball. Our serve and receive played really really well tonight." On Kinney and Slagle's performances, Beeler added, "Riley has been a spark for us in the last two matches. I think she really feeds off of the team's energy, she is very unselfish. Gabby stepped up and hit extremely well tonight."

West Virginia Institue of Technology beat Midway University in three-sets (25-11, 26-24, 25 -20). WV Tech was led by Katelyn Byrd who finished the evening with 10 kills.
