SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. - In the 26th edition of This Week In Pomeroy Sports | TWIPS, let us take a look at the SMWC softball who has been struggling to find its way in the 2020 campaign.

All of this week's action is below!

The SMWC softball team (0-4) traveled to New Albany, Indiana, on Wednesday, March 4 to take on Indiana University-Southeast. Despite playing two hard-fought games, the Pomeroys were unable to get much of an offensive threat going against the Grenadiers (13-2-1). SMWC softball finds themselves in unfamiliar waters after starting the season 0-4 for the first time in the past seven seasons. They will have a couple of weeks to turn things around before their next games against Lawrence Technological University and the University of Rio Grande on March 20.

Game #03 | vs. Indiana University-Southeast | L 3-4

Starter Katelynn Kennedy struggled in the first couple of innings, surrendering four total runs before the Pomeroys started clawing their way back. Kennedy helped herself with a single through the gap at shortstop to score two in the 3rd inning. A wild pitch in the 5th scored Camryn Scott to cut the Grenadier lead to one, but the Pomeroys couldn't mount any more offense to fall 4-3.

Game #04 | vs. Indiana University-Southeast | L 3-5

The game would be tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the 2nd when a triple to left field would plate two runs for IU-Southeast and give them a 3-1 lead. They would tack on two more runs in the third to pad their lead to 5-1 and were able to hold SMWC until the 7th inning when the Woods attempted a comeback. Despite adding a couple runs themselves, the Pomeroys would fall in game two 5-3.

Head coach Todd McIntyre said, "I'm proud of the way the team fought through adversity and showed great energy. Until the final pitch of both contests, the team was encouraging and positive. Obviously, two losses are never what we want to leave a field with. However, I am excited to see the team's energy and fight to turn the season around moving forward."
