Pomeroys Still Seeking First Victory

Pomeroys Still Seeking First Victory
ANDERSON, Ind. - The SMWC men's soccer team lost to Anderson University 2-1 this evening after falling behind 2-0 at halftime. Captain Marcos Hernandez scored his first goal of the season on an incredible acrobatic bicycle kick. The goal was set up by Jose Parra who was accredited with the assist. The Pomeroys will have a short turnaround and will suit up tomorrow against Earlham College.

How It Happened:
  • Anderson's Race Williams scored two goals in the first half (26:46, 36:47) to give AU the early lead.
  • Marcos Hernandez connected mid-way through the second period to cut the lead 2-1
  • Overall, the Pomeroys were outshot 12-to-8 and finished the game with 11 fouls

"Say What"

"It felt good to be back on the pitch with my brothers. The first half was horrible. No one was doing their job, not even I as the captain. After the second half, we finally got our stuff together and played an amazing period which surprised Anderson. They didn't know what hit them but we came up short again and did not finish on the opportunities that we had." said captain Marcos Hernandez.

"We played the first half as boys and the second half as men." mentioned head coach Abe Tizaf. Tizaf was happy with the way his team faced adversity but it was too late to overcome the halftime deficit.

Looking Ahead...

SMWC will host NJCAA Southern State Community College on Monday, September 3rd. The Pomeroys are still seeking their first win of the 2018 inaugural season.
