DUBOIS, Pa. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods (SMWC) softball team (1-0) defeated Penn State Mont Alto (0-1) in exciting fashion Monday night 8-7 to earn their first win of the postseason. After committing some tough errors in the field and surrendering five early runs, the team clawed back and showed no quit to earn the victory.
"That was a great win," says Head Coach Jim Walker, "The girls battle right to the end all the time. You could tell that we haven't played in a while and were rusty, but everyone picked each other up." Walker knows the team needs to cut down on errors saying, "If we keep the same emotion tomorrow and clean up the errors, we should be hard to beat."

Postseason Game #1 | vs Penn State Mont Alto | W 7-8
Penn State Mont Alto scored first on a single to left field to score one. They would break open the scoring in the 3rd inning, capitalizing on multiple Pomeroys errors to take a commanding 5-0 lead. SMWC would fight back in the 5th scoring their first two runs on a single by Kaelee Moody and another later when Camryn Scott reached on an error. It wasn't until the 6th inning when a string of scoring by the Pomeroys would give them a 6-5 lead as the Lions' errors tripped them up. Nerves set in in the 7th when Mont Alto took the lead right back on a double down the left line and a single to make it 7-6. Jaselyn Conn would get the rally going in the bottom of the 7th with a single to right field followed by a single by Scott to advance Conn to 3rd. Josie Lord tied the game on a groundout to 2nd base to score Jasey and Brooke Coffing was called upon to pinch-hit. Coffing's bunt single to third to score Camryn would showcase the Pomeroys' aggressive play-calling and secure the win 7-8.

We were all pumped up, we were in it and every single person in the dugout did their job today whether they were on the field or off the field.
