SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. - SMWC women's basketball took on Fontbonne University this afternoon in Hamilton Arena. The Pomeroys suffered a hard loss 106-87.
How It Happened:
Callan Taylor was The Woods standout performer tonight as she finished the contest with 21 points. Taylor finished the game hitting seven 3-PT baskets and was 7-12 from the field. In the first quarter, the Pomeroys jumped out to an early lead over the Griffins. SMWC led 23-14 behind an impressive defensive performance which caused Fontbonne to commit 13 turnovers in the first ten minutes. The second quarter was all the Griffins, they tallied 33 points which was the most points they have scored in a quarter all season long. At halftime, SMWC trailed 47-42. In the third, the Griffins would continue to push the tempo and score offensively as they put up 36 points. By the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Pomeroys were facing a deficit of 83-58. In the final ten minutes, SMWC put together its best offensive stretch since the first quarter of the game. The Woods tallied 29 points and hit six 3-PT baskets. However, the effort was not enough, SMWC fell 106-87
