NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The SMWC women's basketball team traveled to Indiana University-Southeast this evening but would fall 83-115. The Pomeroys moved to 0-3 on the season and will look for their first win of the season when they travel to face Brescia University on Saturday.
How it Happened
- First Quarter: The Woods stayed with IU-Southeast through most of the first quarter, even leading at most points, but missed shots and sloppy rebounding were an issue for both teams. Neither team broke double-digit scoring until about halfway through the quarter. Both teams remained tied until a big three by IU-SE put them ahead 22-17. The Pomeroys would finish the first quarter down just 17-24.
- Second Quarter: Once again, missed shots dampened the scoring to start off the 2nd quarter, but a 5-point run by IU-SE would put them ahead 31-19 with about 7:00 minutes left in the quarter. An 11-3 run by IU-SE near the end of the half started to put the game out of reach, but three straight 3's by Natalie Nickless, Darriyn Hackbarth, and Brianna Smith would close the gap. They would finish out the half trailing 53-43.
- Third Quarter: SMWC opened the 2nd half on a 7-2 scoring run and would keep themselves within 6 points for most of the quarter, but a 17-1 run by IU-SE all but wrapped the quarter for IU-SE. SMWC would fall into a deep hole, going into the 4th quarter down 63-86.
- Fourth Quarter: The Woods would struggle to get any of their shots to fall and would fall to IU-Southeast 83-115.
SMWC will travel to Owensboro, Kentucky to play Brescia University on Saturday, November 9. First tip is at 7:30 p.m. ET.
