MIDWAY, Ky. – The SMWC women's basketball team lost to Midway tonight 67-89. Long scoring runs by Midway allowed them to jump out to a 29-point lead at halftime and they never looked back. SMWC couldn't overcome the deep deficit as they find themselves 1-4 on the season.
How it Happened
- First Quarter: SMWC jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead but surrendered 12 straight points to fall into an early hole. The quick change was the product of turnovers and a lack of rebounding. The Woods kept themselves within 5-6 points but trailed to start the 2nd quarter 15-22.
- Second Quarter: The Pomeroys came out firing but allowed run to Midway of 8 and 12 that prevented them from gaining any ground. They would finish the first half in a deep hole, 21-50.
- Third Quarter: The third quarter continued the same way as long runs by Midway pushed SMWC further and further away from the win. A 10-point run to close out the quarter helped push the Woods to just a 20-point deficit, but barring a miracle in the 4th, the game would be out of reach.
- Fourth Quarter: Neither team could make any ground one way nor the other, with only 9 points scored through the first five minutes of the quarter. SMWC would have to settle for a 22-point loss to Midway to fall to 1-4 on the season.
The Pomeroys will face Greenville University in Greenville, Illinois on Thursday, November 14th at 7:30 p.m. ET
