The Pomeroys visited the Bearcats of Brescia University today and finally put many of the pieces together. The score ended at 7-0 in favor of the Pomeroys in a game of firsts for this year: first shutout, first corner kick header goal (two by Logan Jones), first goals for some of our players, and the first time that we calmly threaded final passes in behind our opponents consistently the whole match.
The Pomeroys dominated possession in the first half through their midfield engines, Samantha Morrison and Julie Debish, who have played consistently and skillfully all season. After a few dangerous forays behind the Bearcats last defender, the first goal came in the seventh minute on a corner kick, with Logan Jones heading in Kylee White's long serve. Three more followed in three-minute intervals as the Pomeroys continued to press the attack in the Bearcats' end: one for Amanda Loebker on a through ball from Kylee White, one an unassisted goal by Logan Jones, and one by Kylee White on a through pass from Samantha Morrison. The final goal of the first half was scored in the 23rd minute by Sam Morrison unassisted. Some of the buildups in that half included sequences of more than eight passes and some beautiful skill and speed of play. Goalkeeper Alex Haan made three saves on 1v1 breakaways.
The Bearcats gathered themselves and worked hard to right their ship in the second half, pressing higher, getting into the attacking third 16 times, and getting off six shots. But none of that came to fruition, and the Pomeroys slowly took over again, scoring two more before the end of regulation. The sixth goal came in the 67th minute, Logan Jones' second header from a corner kick served by Kylee White to complete her hat trick. The final goal came three minutes later, as Sarah Robinson took on several defenders and created her first goal of the year.
