CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's soccer team defeated Cincinnati Clermont on Tuesday, 3-1. It was the second time this season that the Pomeroys have defeated the Cougars. The Pomeroys beat the Cougars back on September 12 at home, 4-1. With the season sweep of UCC, the Pomeroys are now 2-11 on the year.
The Cougars got on the board first with a goal in the fourth minute of play, however, SMWC's defense began to lock down the Cougars, and half way through the first half SMWC began to take control. The Pomeroys first got on the board with a goal by junior Jordan Bray in the 42nd minute that was assisted by senior Kylee White.
With the score knotted up at 1-1 going into the break, the Pomeroys came out in the second half and added two goals to seal the victory. SMWC's second goal came again from Bray after she took a punt from sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Sonderman and found the back of the net in the 72nd minute. The third and final goal of the day came from junior Cami Navarra in the 90th minute.
Sonderman and junior Georgie Macy split time in the net on Tuesday with Macy taking the first half and making one save, while Sonderman took the second half.
After Tuesday's match, Bray and Navarra are currently tied for the team lead in goals this season with three.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on October 27 when they host Shawnee State on senior night at The Woods. The match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
