Women's Soccer Falls to Defiance 2-1 Off 2nd Half Goals

SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's soccer team (2-3) was defiant against Defiance (3-2-1) but came up short in the closing minutes of the match. After an own goal by Defiance (awarded to Alexis Pflum), the Pomeroys surrendered two second-half goals to lose 2-1.

The Highlights 

  • SMWC started the scoring with an own goal from Defiance's Brianna Snider, credited to Alexis Pflum (assist Kortney Buckley)
  • Defiance scored their equalizer in the 67th minute with a shot at the top of the goal off a quick move past Makayla Stuck
  • The winning shot came late, at 85:59, after a flurry of movement in front of the SMWC goal.

By the Numbers

  • Only one yellow card was shown during the match (Defiance)
  • Alicia Lombardo received a couple of good looks (3 shots, 2 on goal) but was unable to net an equalizer
