Women's Soccer Falls to Oakland City 1-0; .500 on the Season

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods (SMWC) women's soccer team (6-6) fell to Oakland City (2-7-1) tonight 1-0 to fall back to .500 on the season. The Woods is still in strong position as they approach Nationals with just 3 games left on the season.

The Highlights

  • 1st Half: The Pomeroys were held to just one shot on goal with Oakland City dominating the ball for the first 20 minutes. The Woods started to come together with more connections and passing but Oakland City was able to net the only goal of the match with a crossbar goal by Maddison Savis.
  • 2nd Half: SMWC carried over their stronger play to the second half with Ashley Jezik moving over to offense. Despite the opportunities and the increase in pace throughout the 2nd half, the Pomeroys couldn't equalize and fell 1-0.

What's Next?

The women's soccer team will continue their road trip when they face Andrews University for the second time this season on Sunday, October 13th, at 2:00 p.m. ET. SMWC defeated Andrews earlier in the season when they won 5-0 on September 15th.
