Saint Mary of the Woods, Ind. - Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) Athletic Department announced today the resignation of volleyball head coach Stephen Beeler.
Beeler steps down after four seasons, during which the Pomeroys went 74-70 (.513). They went 18-16 (.529) this fall, with a 2018 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Runners-Up finish. Under his leadership, The Woods advanced to four-straight USCAA National Championship appearances.
He appreciates the opportunity to coach at the collegiate level. "I would like to thank President Dottie King for her support throughout the process of the last five years as well as our athletic director, Deanna Bradley, for giving me the chance to coach college student-athletes. SMWC volleyball will always have a special place in my heart!"
Beeler believes the program is ready to take the next step, "The task given to me was to get the program off the ground and make SMWC volleyball a competitive program; I believe I have done that."
Bradley said, "We are very grateful to Stephen for his time and effort over the last five years in building a solid volleyball program."
During his career, Beeler coached seven USCAA National All-Academic Team members, nine USCAA National All-Tournament Team players, 10 USCAA All-Americans, a USCAA Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Year and was named 2017 USCAA Volleyball Coach of the Year.
SMWC will conduct a regional search for his successor.
